As part of our Erasmus+KA210 small-scale project “Designing and creating the inclusive school of our dreams“, which is implemented by the 18th Primary School of Karditsa as a Coordinating School, the 2nd meeting of the partners took place in Karditsa from 2nd to 7th April 2024. For the needs of the meeting, six Italian teachers from the Istituto Comprensivo D’Aosta Ottaviano of Italy visited the city of Karditsa, Greece and the 18th Primary School participating in a series of workshops and cultural events. In particular, they attended the following workshops:

  • A presentation and update on the platforms of the Erasmus+ and eTwinning projects.
  • An original teaching scenario for a film education lesson detecting cultural stereotypes entitled Una Faccia, Una Razza based on the Greek film, designed jointly and implemented by the teachers of the two schools.
  • A climbing workshop in collaboration with the gym “9 degrees”. With the knowledge and assistance of the two specialized special Physical Education teachers, groups of children and teachers, participated in a project, an innovative climbing proposal. Climbing is a sport which is inclusive and can integrate children and adults with any kind of disability, mental or motor. It has the ability to adapt to the level of each child, as there are different routes on the climbing walls, with larger or smaller grips, but also different slopes on each wall. Thus, after the children were introduced to the areas of the climbing track, inclusion and acceptance games were carried out.
  • A doll making workshop to give form to the logo of the project, which is a version of Pippi Longstocking! A different kind of Pippi! With elements from the two countries and the two cities; the colours of the football teams of the cities and elements such as a peacock, a bicycle and an olive tree from Karditsa, Greece, and hills, vineyards and lemon trees from Ottaviano, Italy. With the knowledge and help of a theatrologist specialized in puppetry, Pippi took shape! Teachers and students collaborated in a puppet making workshop. Two dolls were made: one to travel to the children of Ottaviano and the other one as the mascot of the18th Primary School, which will remind the beautiful moments we shared, teachers and students, and all the things we have learned through the implementation of the Erasmus Project!

Apart from the workshops, the Italian teachers also had the opportunity to:

  • visit the Director of Greek Primary Education in Karditsa, where they discussed about the educational systems of Italy and our country. By comparing the two educational systems, several similarities and differences were identified. They also visited the City Hall where the teachers were welcomed by Deputy Mayors.
  • carry out a cultural walk starting from the city’s Archaeological Museum, where they were impressed by the Collection of artifacts of the region. Then, they toured the city on bicycles lent to the Italian teachers by the children and parents of the school and they got to know the neighbourhoods and the monuments of the city.
  • visit the area of the Lake Plastira and enjoy a lakeside walk.
  • visit the imposing cliffs of Meteora and the neighbouring city of Trikala.
  • participate in two celebrations organized in the school by the Parents’ Association of the School and the Teachers’ Association with traditional dishes, dances and music.
  • collaborate with the children involved in the project for the creation of a group poster with words in Greek, Italian and English related to inclusion.

The meeting was evaluated through questionnaires completed by the visiting teachers. Below, you can find a presentation of the feedback provided.
